‘Twas the Night Before New Year’s

by | Dec 27, 2018

‘Twas the night before New Year’s, two thousand nineteen,
And my, what a wild ride the past year had been!
The markets, they soared; the markets, they tumbled,
Investors, they cheered, and then later, they grumbled.

Inside the Beltway, things were chaotic –
Pols on both sides of the aisle seemed neurotic.
They each dug their heels in, unyielding, defiant;
The whole situation was just one big giant

Discombobulation. Thus little got done.
(Though watching the mayhem sure was lots of fun!)
The media also appeared to take sides,
With reporters not confirming their bona fides.

The midterm elections brought change in the House,
Leaving Dems cheering while the GOP groused.
With divided control, and likely vetoes,
Will anything get done next year? No one knows.

With interest rates rising, new fears were emerging
That slowed down the stock market, which had been surging.
Tariffs raised worries of increasing prices
That might require households to make sacrifices.

And while the economy remains quite strong,
The question on everyone’s mind is “how long?”
Holiday spending gave cause for good cheer,
But will it persist through the coming New Year?

Against this backdrop, other risks reared their head –
Cyber risk filled credit unions with dread.
New fraud trends emerged, including jackpotting;
It seems we spend most of our effort in spotting

Where fraudsters will strike next, what games will they play –
The challenges increase with each passing day.
And while regulations began to relax,
The burden’s still threatening to break our backs.

So the challenge continues, to make our way through
The obstacles facing us, both old and new.
The task, it seems daunting: how will we do it?
What resources will we have to devote to it?

Fear not, credit unions, for you have a friend
That will stand by your side from beginning to end.
We prognosticate, and then we analyze,
Viewing each problem with experienced eyes.

We monitor risks, and we monitor trends,
We analyze what every new threat portends.
And then we apply that intelligence to
Solutions to benefit every CU.

Then manage them so you’re not left with regrets.
We’ll help manage vendors, and make good selections,
And when necessary, to make course corrections.

We’ll give you the tools to inform each decision,
To help you reach your goals with greater precision,
And to keep all your risk data safe in one place,
To help overcome all the threats that you face.

As you face the unknown in the coming New Year.

Know that we’re here, as your partners, to weather
The storms that may come, whether old or brand-new.

To all credit unions, our wish is the same:
To see you perform at the top of your game.
And as we reflect upon where we have been,
We wish you a prosperous twenty-nineteen!
